The Sasan – Gir Wildlife Reserve

“An army of Sheep led by a Lion, is better than an army of Lions, led by a sheep”.

- Alexander The Great

TheGir Wildlife Reserve is located in the Junagadh district of Gujrat in an area of 1400 sq.km for conservation of the majestic Asian Lions since 1965. Though the Gir is known for Lions there is a varied wildlife that awaits you; Bears, Panthers, Chinkara, Blackbuck, Antelopes and the spotted rusty cat all of them in their natural habitat. The Darwin’s theory of Survival of the Fittest is put to test here in the natural habitat. Its not just the animals that will enthrall you, it’s a paradise even for birders – there are almost 200 varieties of birds here some amongst them rare as peafowl, grey partridge, Bonelli's eagle, crested serpent eagle, jungle bush quail, painted sandgrouse in the lake of Kamleshwar Dam. Well that’s not just it as we got a crocodile farm visit too. The best time to visit here from October to January as it starts getting colder and the wildlife comes out for lazing around in the sun. The Kankai Mata temple and Tuslishyam Hot Springs are located close by. Junagadh is alo about 60 kms from the wildlife reserve and one can even visit the Junagadh Fort here. We can also do the Best of Gujrat Tour with the wildlife sanctuary. The Gujrat Tour will cover the Akshardham, Kankaria Lake and Water Amusement Park and Gandhi Ashram in Ahmedabad. We will also visit the birthplace of Lord Krishna at Dwarka and visit the Dwarkadhish temple.
